Route 66 Bridges
One of the most remarkable aspects of Route 66 is the number of bridges that span across it. In Missouri alone there are three impressive bridges—each one bigger and more awe-inspiring than the last. The first bridge is located near St. Louis and is known as the Chain of Rocks Bridge. This bridge was built with an unusual bend in it to alleviate stress on the riverbanks below. The second bridge is located just outside Springfield and is called the William H. Natcher Bridge. This bridge was originally built for wagons but now serves as a pedestrian bridge that connects two different trails together. Finally there’s the longest bridge on Route 66—the Lake Eucha Bridge near Joplin, which spans over 1,200 feet across a lake!
