Wigwam Motel
The Wigwam Motel chain, also known as the “Wigwam Villages”, was build during the 1930s and 1940s. The rooms are built in the form of teepees. The chain originally had seven different locations across the country, but today, only three remain. One is in Cave City, Kentucky and the other two are on Historic Route 66 in Holbrook, Arizona and San Bernardino, California.
They are very distinctive landmarks. All three of the remaining Wigwam Motels are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Wigwam in Holbrook was designated as Wigwam Village #6.

Joe and Aggie’s Diner
Joe and Aggie’s Cafe opened in 1943 on Route 66 in Holbrook. It was known for their mix of Mexican and American recopies. Until recently, it was a 3rd-generation family owned business and the oldest operating restaurant in Holbrook.
It was most recently run by Joe and Aggie’s granddaughter and her siblings. The restaurant was known for the good food and warm and friendly atmosphere. A recent ad for the restaurant stated:
Joe and Aggie’s Cafe specializes in homemade red and green chili made with an old family recipe. Local patrons love our chili and can’t get enough of it. We also provide homemade chile rellenos, which is a green chile stuffed with cheese and wrapped with an egg that is topped with chili and cheese. Additionally, our restaurant offers Mexican hamburger steaks and T-Bone steaks served with rice and beans with chili on top. You must try one of our apple burritos, which are flour tortillas with apple pie filling that are deep-fried and topped with ice cream!
